First Dental Visit

Our doctors, along with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommend that your child have his/her first dental exam by the time they reach their first birthday. This visit should be informative, positive and enjoyable. We recommend the parent inform the child of the visit and explain that the dentist will answer any questions and will explain any procedures necessary. It is best if you refrain from using words around your child that might cause unnecessary fear, such as "drill", "needle", "shot", "pull" or "hurt". We make it a common practice to use less frightening words that still convey the same message.

We invite you to stay with your child during the initial exam. If your child requires any special treatment we also recommend you stay during the first restorative visit to develop the trust that our experienced dental staff will remain at your child's side to comfort and guide them through the appointment. We believe every child should be treated as our own. For following appointments, we do ask that you wait in the reception area and allow your child to develop confidence and overcome any apprehension. For the safety and privacy of all patients, other children who are not being treated are not permitted in the treatment room and should remain in the reception area with a supervising adult.

We believe that raising healthy and happy smiles is a partnership between your child, our dental team and you the parents. Our goal is to communicate total oral heath to both parent and child to build great dental habits for a lifetime.
