Plan Your Child's First Dental Visit

You can trust Cavitybusters Dentistry 4 Kids. Since 2008, we've not only made kids feel at home. We've made their smiles healthier. That's because we follow the recommendations of the Academy of Pediatric Dentistry to make sure your child has the best dental care.

According to experts, children should visit the dentist by their first birthday. Most kids get their first teeth between six months and one year, and these baby teeth need special care right away. Developing early dental hygiene habits can set your child up for a lifetime of smiles.

Get your child started off the right way with their dental hygiene. Call Cavitybusters Dentistry 4 Kids. As a local, family-owned private practice, we are happy to welcome kids of all ages!

What to Expect With Your Child's First Teeth

Getting the first teeth is a major milestone that most parents celebrate. However, once those first teeth have erupted, do you know what to do? For first-time parents, it can be overwhelming.

The first baby teeth usually come in around six months or one year of age. Most kids have all their baby teeth by age three. When your child has teeth coming in, their gums may feel tender or sore. You can help soothe your child by rubbing a clean finger or a cool, wet cloth on the gums. Teething rings can also help.

Your child will lose their baby teeth throughout childhood. Most kids start to get their permanent teeth when they are about six, and this process can last until about age 21. As an adult, your child will have 28 permanent teeth. There are 32 teeth total with wisdom teeth, but these teeth are often removed.

All children are different, so be sure to talk to the dentist if you have questions or concerns about your child's dental development. We'd be happy to talk to you about your child's teeth!

Healthy Oral Hygiene Habits for Your Child

At Cavitybusters Dentistry 4 Kids, we do everything we can for your child's smile. However, the most important part of dental care always happens at home. That's why we help our patients develop good dental hygiene habits from the youngest ages. As a parent, you can help!

When your child first gets new teeth, examine them every two weeks. You want to look for lines and discoloration. These are signs of decay. Do your best to avoid sugary foods and liquids. Sugar can attack a new tooth. Make sure your child brushes after eating or feeding. Brushing at least twice a day is best.

Brushing doesn't have to be a chore! It can be fun, and you should start brushing with your child as soon as the first teeth come in. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of toothpaste for children older than two. If your child is younger than two, do not use fluoride toothpaste unless your dentist or doctor recommends it. Explain proper brushing techniques to your child.

In addition to brushing, flossing is recommended. We will discuss the best time to start flossing your child's teeth. If you notice any problems or decay, call Cavitybusters Dentistry 4 Kids right away!

Regular Checkups to Prevent Tooth Decay

Tooth decay is a real risk for your child. Many kids eat sugar regularly, and this can put their teeth at risk. Sugar turns into acid in the mouth, which attacks the enamel of the tooth. The reason so many kids suffer from tooth decay is that they don't have good, consistent oral hygiene habits.

While it's important to encourage your child to step up their brushing and flossing, getting professional help is also important. Regular dental checkups can be a critical way to keep your child's smile safe. We recommend that children visit the dentist twice a year. During these visits, children should get their teeth cleaned, examined, and treated with fluoride.

We may also recommend teeth sealants. Sealants are used to coat the deep grooves on your child's back teeth. This can prevent decay in hard-to-reach areas. Sealants can last for several years, and we will monitor them when your child comes in.

I take all three of my kids here since day one. Jessica and Taylor do the most awesome job with my kids. Super friendly and they make it a pretty memorable experience every time we come. My kids look forward to the golden coins at the end of each visit. It really makes the difference!
