Keep Your Child Calm With Sedation Dentistry
At Cavitybusters Dentistry 4 Kids, we want kids to enjoy coming to the dentist. However, not every trip to the dentist can be fun or relaxing. When your child needs a complex dental procedure like a root canal, extraction, or oral surgery, we can use sedation to make the process less stressful.
With sedation, your child can get complex procedures done with no pain, noise, or discomfort. To keep your child comfortable and safe, we use effective sedation dentistry on a case-by-case basis. Is your child a good candidate? Let's talk about it!

Understanding Sedation Dentistry
Sedation dentistry uses medication to make dental treatment less stressful for your child. Pediatric dentists have to be careful with this technique, and we're equipped for it at Cavitybusters Dentistry 4 Kids. We can find a solution to help your child feel safe and comfortable. With sedation, your child will enjoy the following benefits for each procedure.
- No memory of the procedure
- No sense of time while sedated
- No sense of smell or sound
- No fear or anxiety

Reasons to Consider Sedation Dentistry
At Cavitybusters Dentistry 4 Kids, we know that each child is different. That's why we recommend sedation based on their unique needs. Here are common reasons we recommend sedation.
- Your child is scared of the dentist

Levels of Sedation
For all obvious reasons, sedation dentistry is closely regulated. At Cavitybusters Dentistry 4 Kids, we are very careful with this practice due to the age and size of our patients. There are three sedative states we can use for your child's treatment. We'll explore each one with you and make recommendations based on your child's specific needs.
Mild Sedation
For the lightest sedation, we use anxiolysis. This is preferred when children have mild anxiety. It's also good for longer procedures or complex situations. This sedation is usually given orally. With mild sedation, your child will be awake or very sleepy throughout the procedure. They will breathe normally, but they will feel deeply relaxed. Usually, children need a few hours to recover after mild sedation. Another type of mild or moderate sedation is nitrous oxide (laughing gas). This provides a sense of relaxation during treatment.
Moderate Sedation
When your child has more serious dental anxiety or is undergoing a longer or more complex procedure, we may talk about moderate sedation. This is a form of light IV sedation and is known as conscious sedation. Your child will remain awake but be deeply relaxed.
Deep Sedation
For deep sedation, your child will go between consciousness and unconsciousness during their dental procedure. Your child will probably have no recollection of the treatment. They will be unable to respond to commands even if they are awake during the procedure.
How Sedation Is Administered
When you choose sedation, it's not just about the level of sedation. It's about how the sedation is administered as well. There are two main methods at Cavitybusters Dentistry 4 Kids.
Inhalation
For inhaled sedation, we use nitrous oxide. This is also called laughing gas. It's best for mild or moderate anxiety. It has a quick recovery time so your child gets back to normal activities quickly.
Oral
Another option is oral sedation. This doesn't require needles, which is why a lot of kids like it. Your child will get a prescription pill. This should be taken about an hour before the appointment to take full effect.
Please contact us to learn more. We can set up an appointment for your child and discuss sedation at that time. We want to provide the best dental experience for your child.
